Nestled in the heart of Silver Lake, there sits a tiny little restaurant on the corner of Sunset and Hyperion. As Chef Ryan Wong’s first project, Needle seeks to bring to the neighborhood a splash of color with its simply thoughtful menu full of robust and clean flavors from the streets of Hong Kong. Pre-COVID, Needle was a casual counter-service restaurant where one could enjoy a quiet, solo meal with Chef Ryan’s one-of-a-kind Pork Chop Bun at the end of a long day or catch up on life with a group of friends over a variety of small plates and handcrafted teas. Since COVID, Needle has gone through several different iterations and countless pivots, but we’d like to think the heart and soul of what we stand for has remained the same.
In Cantonese, 呢度 means “here”. At Needle, we value presence immensely. In addition to Chef Ryan’s presence being felt in every deliberate detail, from food to drink to decor, we also wanted guests to walk in and feel present in the space. We wanted Needle to be a haven where you get to enjoy this particular moment in time and this meal in front of you, whether it be alone or with the company of others. No matter who you are, where you’ve come from, or where you’re going, once you’re here, you’re here.
